Course Overview: This course is designed for dentists and provides training in support of diode laser physics, safety, and clinical utilization for diode laser systems.
The session will include a Zoom venue where participants will have received a practice kit including typodont periodontal models, porcine jaw, a document camera designed for video conferencing and instructions for use. The Epic laser must be present.
Learning Objectives
Demonstrate competency, knowledge and skill in utilizing the laser to manage established patient conditions. This course will include both didactic and innovative virtual hands on instruction in the following areas:
- Troughing
- Soft Tissue Crown Lengthening
- Gingivectomy/Gingivoplasty
- Second Stage Implant Uncovering
- Frenectomy
- Fibroma Removal
- Treatment of Oral Ulcerations
- Non-surgical Periodontics
Courtesy of BioLase, Dr. Paul Chang out of McKinney, Texas will conduct a free webinar on the use of Waterlase in implant procedures. Dr. Chang, a periodontist with extensive implant experience, did a corporate forum at AAP (American Academy of Periodontology) last year with great feedback with lots of his clinical cases and scientific explanations on why YSGG is the best technology compared to other lasers especially for treating peri-implantitis.

Learning Objectives:
This course is for dental hygienists and oral health therapists to gain training and certification in soft tissue laser therapy.
Learn what procedures we can use with diode lasers to benefit patients and treat and prevent periodontal disease, as well as treatment of herpetic lesions and aphthous ulcers.
In this 8 hour day course you will learn laser physics, laser safety, laser theory, the different procedures we can use as dental hygienists and oral health therapists; as well as, gain hands-on training in the usage of diode lasers. Lasers will be made available to you during this course for the hands on portion.
A certificate will be made available to you to show you have completed the necessary recommendations by Dental Council New Zealand to use and practice soft tissue laser therapy.
Instructor: Brooke Holmes, RDH, BSDH
Brooke is the first hygienist in New Zealand to train for and use the Biolase Epic Hygiene Laser in practice. She has 17 years experience in Clinical Dental Hygiene practice, and is trained and skilled in Advanced Periodontal Therapy.
Brooke gained her dental hygiene training from Western Kentucky University in the USA and trained for soft tissue laser therapy from the USA as well. She now teaches and trains other hygienists and oral health therapists in Soft Tissue Laser Therapy and Advanced Periodontal Therapy and is the owner and director of LaserPerio Hygienist, Limited.
